About Big Brothers Big Sisters...

Our services have been proven effective across America!  A recent study conducted by Private & Public Ventures examined the effectiveness of BBBS mentoring on youth and found that, compared to their peers, Little Brothers and Little Sisters who met with their Bigs regularly were:

• 46% less likely to start using drugs

• 27% less likely to start drinking

• 52% less likely to skip a day of school

• 37% less likely to skip a class; and earned higher grades and felt better about how they were doing in school.

• 33% less likely to hit someone; and were more trusting of their parents or guardians.  They were less likely to lie to them, and felt more supported and less criticized by their peers and friends.

Big Brothers Big Sisters charges no fees to the volunteers or families for the services provided.  We receive 9% of our funding from United Way of Tuscarawas and United Way of Wayne & Holmes Counties, 7% from community/individual contributions and gifts, 2% from camp scholarship grants to provide a camping experience for the Littles in our program, 25% from state & local grants, and we raise 53% in our special events such as Bowl For Kids' Sake, Annual Golf Outing, Silent Auction at the Annual Dinner, Sales of Entertainment Books, and the Make a Difference Club.
